I wasn’t happy. My body hurt all the time from my full-time, labor intensive job. The repetitive, physical nature of my job was taking a toll on my body and it was affecting my emotional health. Out of frustration and desperation, I asked myself, “What would make me happy?” The answer was simple and provided me a clear path going forward: I wanted to help people in the same way I needed help. I had always been interested in the idea of physical work resulting in mental relief and had many friends and family who struggled with unhappiness and insecurity because of how they looked or felt. To get started, I first sought out reputable local personal trainers who were kind enough to work with and mentor me, which began with working to attain a personal trainer certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). It took a lot of evenings and weekends over several months (while still working at the saw mill), but I was committed. After a few months, and after earning my certification, I began training on my days off at a local gym. In addition to helping myself feel like a new, healthy, happy person, I have helped others move better and achieve their fitness goals. I love what I do; a day training people in fitness never feels like work. I have found my calling.
This work is personal to me. I have experienced myself the effects of exercise on physical and emotional health. Like many people, I have had challenges with anxiety and depression but through healthy eating and regular exercise I have improved my life and I am always excited to show others how to improve theirs too.
Helping people feel better about themselves both mentally and physically through fitness and nutrition fulfills me more than I ever thought possible. My clients’ accomplishments and their milestones towards their fitness goals always feel like mine too.
